People making a positive difference to Wales’ present and future have been spotlighted by the first Future Generations Commissioner, Sophie Howe, as she comes to the end of her seven-year term.
Poets, public sector workers, activists, influencers, businesses, schools and volunteers helping to embed well-being goals across Wales appeared alongside actor and campaigner Michael Sheen, on the Future Generations Changemaker 100 list, which has been published at an event today at the Wales Millennium Centre.
Among the hundred Changemakers is Claire O’Shea, Head of Partnership at Hub Cymru Africa. Explaining why she was included on the list, the Future Generations Commissioner said:

“Claire has been a long-term champion for international solidarity, social justice and global responsibility in Wales. In her current role at Hub Cymru Africa, she is a strong leader for partnership working and engaging the public in being a caring nation. Claire is a champion for the well-being of future generations, promoting sustainable development and tackling climate change, including as a volunteer in her role as chair of Wales Overseas Agency Group and chair of Sustrans Cymru‘s Policy Advisory Group. She is also on the board of Samaritans Cymru.”
First Minister Mark Drakeford, who attended the publication event in Cardiff Bay, said: “Recent years have brought to the fore the scale of the global challenges we face. Chief among these is the pressing need to work towards a more sustainable future. To deliver on our ambitions for a stronger, fairer, and greener Wales we need to continually ensure that the way we work in government is driving forward the positive vision we have for the future shaped by the Well-being of Future generations Act.”
Also included on the Future Generations Changemaker 100 list is Professor Kelechi Nnoaham, former Chair of our partner organisation, Wales and Africa Health Links Network; and Susie Ventris-Field, Hayley Richards and Hannah Harvey, Chief Executive and joint Heads of Programme Development and Policy at Wales Centre for International Affairs, which hosts Hub Cymru Africa at the Temple of Peace. Wanjiku Ngotho Mbugua, Acting Chief Executive Officer at BAWSO, and Dr Salamatu Jidda-Fada, Founder and Director of North Wales Africa Society, were both recognised for their work supporting the African diaspora in Wales.
