Diversity and InclusionHuman RightsShared Learning Event Online event Zoom Register

An online event by Share Our Story (#SOS) to demonstrate the achievements and ambitions of people with disabilities in Wales and Africa. Taking stories and experiences from throughout 2025.

The event will examine current disability issues relating to Welsh and African social and economic development. This will be followed by a discussion led by a panel of speakers talking about what their group has achieved locally during 2025.

There will also be a presentation looking at what is being done to combat the atrocities and human rights violations, faced by people with albinism in some parts of Africa.

You are invited to join us, whether you regard yourself as disabled or not. Come and learn something of what the disabled community has been doing in Wales and Africa.

About #IDPD2025

The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated every year for 33 years. It is a time when we highlight the achievements and aspirations of the disabled communities at home and globally. The day is normally observed on 3rd December and the theme for 2025 is:

“Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress”

About Share Our Story (#SOS)

Share Our Story (#SOS) is an initiative that is emerging from the Wales and Africa Community and seeks to bring people with disabilities together and discuss their lived experiences in order to advance progress and inclusion.

Since its beginning, in March 2022, the #SOS WhatsApp Group has shared over 200 stories and discussions with contributors from 11 African countries plus Wales. The findings highlighted through our discussions are then used to promote disability inclusive development via social media, attendance at conferences, and awareness raising days.

#SOS has chosen to have its IDPD event on the 10th of December so as not to interfere with local and national celebrations in Wales, Africa, and beyond. With the assistance of the Welsh Government, through Hub Cymru Africa (HCA).
