This Shared Learning Event offers members of the Wales and Africa community an opportunity to explore how the Big Give and its match funding campaigns can serve as a powerful tool for online fundraising for Wales-based charities.
During this session, we will hear from organisations that have successfully participated in the annual Big Give Christmas Challenge, as well as other campaigns.
The event will provide an introduction to the Big Give, highlighting the potential benefits, challenges, and risks of using it as a fundraising platform. Speakers will also share valuable insights on why participating in the Big Give is a worthwhile endeavour, how it has positively impacted their organisations, and key takeaways for those considering involvement in future campaigns. We will also hear from Tabitha Ndiaye from The Waterloo Foundation about their perspective as a Champion Funder in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge.
Nick Christoforou, formerly a trustee with Dolen Ffermio, and Janet Lowore from Bees for Development will share their personal experiences, offering practical advice on how to navigate the process and maximise the campaign’s effectiveness.
Join us to learn from real-life case studies and gain a deeper understanding of how the Big Give can help enhance your charity’s fundraising efforts.

Nick is the Founding Partner of Neo – a strategic and creative consultancy for the pioneering organisations making our world a better place. And one of the first certified B Corps in the UK.
He is also a trustee of Welsh Centre for International Affairs (WCIA), which inspires people to learn and act on global issues to help create a fairer, more peaceful world.

Janet Lowore is Director of Programmes at Bees for Development and has been engaged with different fundraising approaches with the organisation for many years. Janet takes the lead on designing our projects, together with our partner organisations, always based on needs expressed by the beekeepers we are supporting. Janet oversees beekeeping development projects in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
Bees for Development started small with the Big Give Christmas Challenge over ten years ago now and they have grown their fundraising targets year on year. After some teething pains they now value The Big Give as an important and helpful fundraising partner.
Tabitha’s background is in zoology, which for the better part of a decade saw her studying animal behaviour across many remote areas in Africa, the Americas and Asia. She started working at The Waterloo Foundation ten years ago, initially providing research support to the Environment and World Development Programmes, before moving into her current role as World Development Fund Manager for the Foundation’s WASH and Nutrition portfolios. From this position, she leads The Waterloo Foundation’s partnership with the Big Give – this has been an enduring relationship, with TWF stepping in as a Champion Funder in The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge each year since 2011.
