Uganda Sovereignty Bill

Implications and considerations for UK-based INGOs

Human RightsPolicy and CampaignsPanel Discussion Online event Zoom

The aim of this panel event is to bring together UK-based INGOs working in Uganda, and their local partners, to better understand the implications of the recently passed Sovereignty Bill (2026) and to reflect on their role going forward.

Over the course of the session, we will be exploring:

  • How UK-based organisations can continue to support Ugandan partners in ways that do not expose them to risk.
  • What meaningful solidarity looks like for UK INGOs in this context
  • The perspectives of Ugandan civil society leaders themselves — because any understanding of this situation has to be grounded in local voices and leadership

This is a joint event between Hub Cymru Africa, Small International Development Charities Network (SIDCN), South West International Development Network (SWIDN), Scotland’s International Development Alliance, CADA (Coalition of Aid and Development Agencies NI) and Bond.

Note due to the sensitivity of the session it will not be recorded. We will however circulate a summary of the meeting and discussion points using Chatham House Rules and share with all registrants.

Speakers:

– Dr Irene Dawa, National Platform Lead in Uganda, The First Humanitarian Network

– Edward Mutebi, Founder and Director, Lets Walk Uganda

– Eshban Kwesiga, Global Fund for Community Foundations, Uganda
