Fundraising Placement

Location: Lesotho Sustainable Livelihoods
Funded by Welsh Government | Ariennir gan Lywodraeth Cymru

This is a development opportunity, spending 8 weeks in Lesotho, supporting an NGO with your fundraising and strategic planning expertise, as part of the International Learning Opportunities Programme funded by the Welsh Government.

About the organisation

The placement is based in a non profit organisation creating sustainable opportunities in education, architecture and economic empowerment. Their social enterprise model combines humanitarian mission with sustainable business practices, creating self-funding initiatives that generate both social impact and economic value within communities across Lesotho.

About the role

The organisation has structured fundraising systems in place. However, they face challenges in diversifying and scaling their funding database. The placement will support the organisation in strengthening long-term resource mobilisation strategies, improving donor engagement processes, and enhancing grant-writing skills to ensure better alignment with donor requirements to win more grants and increase their recurring donors.

About you

You will have strong fundraising and donor engagement experience and skills (institutional, corporate, and individual giving) and strategic planning and organisational development expertise. In particular you will have:

  • Proposal writing, donor reporting and budget management skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Ability to build staff capacity through coaching and training
  • Significant experience in fundraising and resource mobilisation within non-profits or social enterprises ideally within the African context
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies
  • Experience in facilitating strategic planning processes with teams and boards
  • Expert knowledge of grant management and donor compliance requirements

Previous experience working with international NGOs, development partners or foundations is an added advantage. Knowledge of potential donors and partners to target would be a welcome bonus.

International Learning Opportunities Programme

The International Learning Opportunities programme (ILO) provides a development opportunity to spend 8 weeks in Lesotho, Namibia or Uganda.

We source a wide range of projects with a diverse group of established partners in these three very different countries.

The ILO programme aims to improve the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of both sub-Saharan Africa and Wales through a variety of mutually beneficial projects, in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The ILO programme gives individuals from the public, business and third sectors in Wales the opportunity to work on projects designed to both enhance their leadership skills and deliver a developmental outcome for their hosts. The opportunities listed illustrate placements requested but other opportunities may also be available. Overall, we conduct about 10 placements a year and would not expect to deploy more than one person to any organisation at a time. This scheme is open to anyone who lives or works in Wales. We are particularly interested to receive applications from members of the African diaspora.
