This is a development opportunity, spending 8 weeks in Lesotho, supporting a local NGO to build its organisational capacity, as part of the International Learning Opportunities Programme funded by the Welsh Government.
The placement is based in a local, action-driven relief and development organisation dedicated to serving at-risk individuals, with programmes for:
The NGO has identified that it lacks advanced technical expertise and systems in resource mobilisation, MEAL, financial compliance, digital innovation, and evidence-based advocacy. To effectively meet community expectations and enhance their overall effectiveness, they are seeking targeted capacity building support in areas such as
From the placement, the organisation would hope to learn best practice in community health, digital inclusion, and social enterprise models, as well as innovative approaches to youth and women’s empowerment, policy advocacy, and governance. They are particularly keen to exchange knowledge on effective donor engagement, sustainable resource mobilization, and robust MEAL systems, whilst also learning how Welsh organisations integrate rights-based approaches and community participation into their programmes. This shared learning will strengthen the NGO’s ability to adapt global lessons to the Lesotho context and enhance cross-cultural collaboration.
You will have skills and experience in a number of the above areas, be an excellent communicator and have the ability to build staff capacity through coaching and training.

The International Learning Opportunities programme (ILO) provides a development opportunity to spend 8 weeks in Lesotho, Namibia or Uganda.
We source a wide range of projects with a diverse group of established partners in these three very different countries.
The ILO programme aims to improve the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of both sub-Saharan Africa and Wales through a variety of mutually beneficial projects, in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The ILO programme gives individuals from the public, business and third sectors in Wales the opportunity to work on projects designed to both enhance their leadership skills and deliver a developmental outcome for their hosts. The opportunities listed illustrate placements requested but other opportunities may also be available. Overall, we conduct about 10 placements a year and would not expect to deploy more than one person to any organisation at a time. This scheme is open to anyone who lives or works in Wales. We are particularly interested to receive applications from members of the African diaspora.
