Projects focusing on ‘third world needs and development.’ [sic] The trustees continue to make grants supporting many charities within specified grant making criteria. The trustees endeavour to support charities who operate long term development, health and welfare programmes overseas, charities who operate health and welfare programmes in the UK and environmental charities.
N.B. The term “Third World” is outdated, inaccurate and often pejorative. It originally described countries that were not aligned with either the Western or Soviet blocs during the Cold War, but has since become a catch-all for poorer countries, obscuring huge differences between them. It also implies a hierarchy in which some countries are inherently less developed than others. More precise terms such as low-income, lower-middle-income or low- and middle-income countries should be used where appropriate.
