The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives

Location:: Rwanda and Burundi
Grant Size:: CAD $20,000 to $35,000
Eligibility:: Eligible recipients include: Local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organisations, Local academic institutions working on local projects, International non-governmental organisations working on local development activities, Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations that are working on local development activities. CFLI funding is to be directed toward local civil society organisations (including non-governmental organisations) and other institutions working at the local level. The CFLI is always looking to fund innovative projects that deliver measurable results.

The programme is directed at projects conceived and designed predominantly by local partners. All projects must align with at least 1 of the following CFLI thematic priorities: Inclusive governance and diversity. Peace and security, with a focus on conflict prevention and peace building. Environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water sanitation management.
Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Of note that gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls should also be a cross-cutting priority in all projects.
