The Blackwood Engineering Trust objective is broadly advancing the education of and generally benefiting children and young people in need by reason of poverty, bereavement, sickness or disability in the UK and abroad for the public benefit.
Blackwood Engineering Limited, based in South Wales and Belgium, supply counterweights and casting products to global customers in the Construction Equipment, Materials Handling and Access Platform markets.
In 1997, Blackwood Engineering started sourcing counterweight castings from China for our UK customers. We built a strong relationship with our Chinese partner and as a result, the business developed and became very successful. During the following years, the company diversified into other casting products and we expanded our customer base to overseas markets. We now have several Chinese and Indian partners contributing to the continuing success of the business.
Acknowledging this contribution, the directors and principal shareholder wanted to find some way to repay this and the Blackwood Engineering Trust was established in 2015, with the initial objective of helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged orphan children in China. We have since decided to expand the Trust objectives to children’s charities within the UK and other parts of the world in locations where Blackwood Engineering operates.
The Trust is totally financed by periodic contributions from Blackwood Engineering Ltd and as such will have limited resources. The Trustees meet periodically to recommend donations to worthy causes that meet our objectives and recognising the limitations on funding we prioritise our donations as follows:
More recently we have determined that in both China and India we must focus our donations on a small number of charitable organisations that meet our criteria, ensuring that we have maximum impact on the children we are helping. It is our intention to develop a long-term relationship with these organisations through regular donations
