Darwin Initiative Extra

Type of project: The Darwin Initiative is a UK government grants scheme that helps conserve biodiversity and support the communities that live alongside it through locally led projects worldwide. The Darwin Initiative’s Extra funding round focuses on projects that are on a clear scaling pathway: building on good evidence from smaller projects and demonstrating the potential to scale further by completion, delivering strong results for biodiversity conservation and multidimensional poverty reduction within its lifetime. Projects should last between 2 to 5 years maximum.

Location: ODA eligible countries. See Annex A of the guidance for a full list. Note that 70% of funding will be allocated to Low Income and Lower-Middle Income Countries.

Eligibility: Lead organisations can be based anywhere but we strongly encourage projects to have in-country lead organisations where possible.

Grant size: £800,000 to £5 million

Closing date: 16 September
